Wine Tasting 101
Are you overwhelmed when you walk past the wine section of your grocer? Intimidated by the wine menu at a restaurant, or not sure what to look for when your server pours you a sample of the bottle you ordered? There’s no need to be intimidated by any of this because buying and tasting wine is a lot easier than you think.
You’ll be amazed at how simple it is to learn the fundamental characteristics of wine. This is a fun, hands-on, interactive class that will get you working all of your senses: sight, smell and taste.
You will learn:
~ The proper steps to tasting wine
~ What wine flaws to look for
~ How to tell if a wine is young or aged
~ Why it's important to swirl your glass (it's not just too look cool!)
~ How to identify acid levels, sugar level, alcohol levels and tannin levels by taste
~ How to identify fruit, wood and earth aromas, as well as flaws, by nose and/or mouth
~ Grape characteristics
~ The differences between Old World and New World wines
Lesson 1
The proper steps to tasting wine and what to look for
Lesson 2
Taste 16 different samples of wine that have been adjusted with sugar, acid, alcohol and tannin and identify the low and high levels of each
Lesson 3
Smell 12 different samples of wine and try to identify what scents have been added to them that are commonly found in wine
Lesson 4
Blind tasting of 4 different wines. You will try to identify the grape variety by using a grape characteristic guideline
